iOS app · iPhone and iPad
Turn any idle iPad or iPhone into a photo frame.
Just Frame shows one photo at a time, full screen, with the date it was taken and the place it was taken quietly along the bottom. Your photos already know both. Nothing else needs to happen.
What it does
Version 1.0Full screen
One photo at a time, filling the display, crossfading to the next on a timer you control — 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes.
Never cropped
A portrait photo on a landscape screen, or the reverse, is shown in full — a softly blurred copy of the same photo fills the space around it instead of cutting anything off.
Date and place
The date taken and the place name sit quietly at the bottom of each photo, read from the photo’s own metadata.
No repeats
Every photo in your selection is shown before any photo comes round again.
Pick a source
All Photos, or any album in your library, including smart albums like Favorites.
Run on a schedule
Set the hours it should run. Outside them the screen goes dark and the device is free to sleep.
Stays awake
The screen will not dim or lock while the slideshow is running, so it can sit on a shelf all day.
Why it exists
A digital photo frame costs money, needs its own power supply, and asks you to copy photos onto it. Meanwhile there is an older iPad in a drawer with a better screen than any frame you can buy, and every photo you care about is already on it.
Just Frame is the fifteen minutes of software that gap needed. Prop the iPad up, plug it in, and let it run. The place names are the part people react to: a photo from 2014 tells you it was Leland, which you had forgotten, because the coordinates have been sitting in the file the whole time.
